Supplies:
- 28" by 28" piece of soft yellow material
- 11" by 4 1/2" piece of black material
- 9" piece of black embroidery floss
- Stuffing
- Scissors
- Chalk
- Pins
- Needle
- Thread (black and white)
- Sewing machine
First, cut out two 14" by 14" squares of yellow material.
Take one of the squares, fold into a smaller square, roughly trace, and cut out a half circle from one edge to the other.
When unfolded, you will have a circle. You can repeat the process for the second square or if you're lazy like me, just lay the circle you've already cut out on top of the second square, and cut around the edges.
My favorite emoji is the one wearing shades (comment what your favorite emoji is ;) ). To make the shades, take your 11" by 4 1/2" piece of black fabric and fold it in half.
Tracing and cutting out the shades was tricky business but I kinda winged it. It would probably be easier if I had printed out a template of the shades and cut around that. But whatevs.
It still turned out fine. :D
Pin and sew the shades to the emoji's face.
Note to self: next time, iron out the wrinkles in the fabric first. |
With the chalk, trace out a smile for your emoji.
Lay the embroidery floss down and pin in place.
Carefully zig-zag sew over the floss (make sure you're using black thread).
Voila! The face is complete.
Lay your second circle, "bad" side facing up, directly on top of your emoji face and pin in place.
Zig-zag sew around the edges (this time using white thread). Don't sew all the way around. Leave a small hole open at the bottom.
Turn inside-out.
Stuff that emoji with as much stuffing as you can get in there. The plusher the better!
Tip! If you don't have any stuffing on hand, collect all your fabric scraps, cut them up, and use that. You'll need a lot of it but it'll suffice.
Hand-sew the hole.
Enjoy your new pillow!
