I absolutely adore the color of this dress! Plus, the thick velvety material makes it the perfect winter dress. There was only one slight problem. It had a gathered waistline, which made the dress look more childish than elegant.
The first order of business was to unstitch the waist - no small task to be sure!
So much fabric!!
Next, I turned the top part inside out and tailored it just a tad so it fit better.
For the skirt part, I decided I wanted it to have an A-line shape.
Then, I reattached the skirt to the top.
Lastly, I unpicked the existing hem, recut, and hemmed it to fit the new shape of the dress.
The dress is complete!
Nice job, much better lines.
ReplyDeleteThanks!
DeleteI don't know how you do it.
ReplyDeleteHaha! It just takes a little bit of knowledge and a little bit of guts. :)
DeleteYou really made this dress look a lot better! I know I wouldn't have gone to that much work. Nicely done.
ReplyDeleteThanks! I've been looking for a good winter dress, but most of what you find at stores is much too thin. This one was the right thickness and the right color. Just needed to be modernized. :D
DeleteWow! You did really good! Great job!
